Steve started his real estate career with Coldwell Banker in 1968. He is the founder of Hopkins Development Company, the predecessor of HRE, in 1974. Over the years Steve has developed over 100 projects totaling over 9.1 million SF of commercial real estate.  The projects involve deep relationships with municipalities and range from grocery anchored shopping centers to the repositioning of regional enclosed malls, to mixed use commercial/residential developments.

Steve is a Trustee for the International Council of Shopping Centers, is on the Advisory Board of the California Business Properties Association, a member of Urban Land Institute and is a member of the Community Redevelopment Association. Steve is one of the pioneers of urban in-fill development and public/private partnerships with municipalities.
